Specialized care for your ear, hearing, and vertigo

Dr. James Prueter brings advanced surgical expertise and a personal patient-first approach to complex ear and skull base care across central Ohio.
Dr. James Prueter Jr., DO is a fellowship-trained otologist and neurotologist specializing in complex disorders of the ear, hearing, vertigo, and skull base. His practice is built on a simple belief: the best outcomes come from combining advanced surgical expertise with genuine, patient-centered care.
Dr. Prueter focuses on improving quality of life for patients living with hearing loss, chronic ear disease, and vertigo. He partners closely with audiology, physical therapy, and neurosurgery to build treatment plans that fit each patient's goals, with a preference for minimally invasive techniques whenever possible.
Beyond the clinic, he teaches at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, trains ENT residents at Ohio Health and contributes nationally through the Education Committee of the American Osteopathic College of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.
Dr. Prueter has surgical privileges at Doctors Hospital, Riverside Methodist and Central Ohio Surgical Institute.
An otologist is an ENT physician with advanced training in the medical and surgical treatment of the ear. A neurotologist takes that expertise further, treating complex conditions involving the inner ear, hearing and balance nerves, and the surrounding skull base.
It is a highly specialized field, and most patients arrive through a referral from their primary care provider, ENT, or another specialist. This can cause significant delays in care. Our online srevices needs no referral and provides quick access. Dr. Prueter focuses exclusively on these complex cases, working alongside a broader care team to deliver outcomes that meaningfully improve daily life.

Get Back to Your Life: Expert Treatment for Vertigo & Vestibular Migraine
Vertigo and vestibular migraine are debilitating conditions that can make even simple daily tasks feel impossible. If you're struggling with dizziness, balance problems, or migraine-related vertigo, you don't have to suffer alone.
A vertigo attack can be frightening and debilitating. Many patients end up in urgent care or the ER, spending hours and thousands of dollars for tests and reassurance they could have gotten sooner from a specialist.
Dr. Prueter specializes in these exact conditions. With online consultations available quickly—often within days—you can get expert answers, a clear diagnosis, and a treatment plan without the ER wait, the cost, or the anxiety.
Dr. Prueter is fellowship-trained in otology and neurotology—the surgical subspecialties focused on the inner ear, vestibular system, and the nerves that control balance. This isn't a general practice approach; it's expert-level care for your specific problem.
He understands the nuances of vestibular migraine, which is often misdiagnosed as other conditions. With his expertise, you'll get:
A confident diagnosis based on advanced knowledge
Evidence-based treatment options tailored to your case
Coordination with your other providers (PT, neurology, primary care)
Peace of mind that you're being treated by someone who sees these cases daily
